Project Brief: Create a digital and physical asset
Developed a custom font named after the Pilot G2 gel pens, a typography project that explores personal identity and authenticity in the digital age. This two-part project converted my personal handwriting into a digital font, then transforming each letter individually into physical stamps, the project created a circular journey from analog to digital and back to physical.
The process began by writing all 186 typeface characters with a Pilot G2 pen repeatedly. Each character was digitized and refined to create consistent letterforms while preserving the organic qualities that make handwriting uniquely personal.
The 26 digital letters and ten numbers were then transformed into individual physical rubber stamps. Each character was laser engraved onto rubber, then attached to hand cut wooden blocks. The complete 36-piece set was packaged into a unique box, which I designed, printed, and then die cut.
This project represents the evolution of typography, enabling personal typography to live beyond the original hand, whether in the physical or digital form.
The circular journey from pen to digital to stamps requiring ink again creates a poetic cycle where authentic self-expression transforms into tools for shared communication.
